"Go Green - Get Gold" Bicycle Safety Class

To promote “Go Green – Get Gold”. Made possible by a grant frm SACOG, 75 Bicycles were given out to Sac State students. This class will cover basic Bicycle Safety, rules and regulations as well as tips for commuting to School. Peak Adventures will cover basic bicycle maintenance. May 9, 2009 - "Free Ycycle Green-Fit-Fun Ride”
The Ride’s Mission: To raise awareness and provide education on the reasons “why” to cycle. Ycycle and May is Bike Month want to make a difference in this community and share the passion and benefits of cycling to encourage Sacramento-area residents to ride for the environmental, fitness and fun benefits of cycling. This event is in conjunction with May is Bike Month - Sacramento Region.
What: The “Ycycle Green Fit Fun Ride” is a free cycling event in conjunction with May is Bike Month – Sacramento Region. The event is open to all ages and families. This event takes p lace along the American River Bike Trail. No ride registration necessary. Participants can enter anywhere along the trail and ride to any or all of four sites along the bike trail at Sac State (Sacramento), William B. Pond ( Sacramento ), Hazel Avenue (near fish hatchery or aquatic center, Rancho Cordova ) or Negro Bar (Folsom.) . Distance is determined by the riders. Free food, water, water bottles, information and bicycle related items will be given to participants. Local Bicycle Shop representatives will be on hand with free materials and information. The non-profit Cycles4Hope.org will be sponsoring a bicycle donation drive and offering free bicycle tune ups at the Negro bar site. Note that some parking areas require a state park pass or nominal entrance fee.
The event is also looking for sponsors and volunteers.
Who can Participate: The event is open to all ages and families. This is a great way to ride the trail with Free support. Make it a day to enjoy the beauty and relaxation of the outdoors. Kids and Adults can determine their own starting point and distances. Fun for all !!
When: Ycycle Green Fit Fun Ride is being held Saturday, May 9 from 10:00am to 2:00 p.m.
Where: American River Parkway Bicycle Trail with entry/rest sites at Sac State, William B. Pond, Hazel Avenue and Negro Bar.
Registration: No ride registration necessary. Bicyclists can enter the trail anywhere and ride to any or all of the four sites. Bicyclists can determine their own distance by riding to one or more of the sites.
Optional Ycycle Membership: Membership is Free, however, we gladly accept donations to cover our expenses. Please see the “Y Join Us?” page for donation information. Ycycle members will be covered by insurance for the ride.
Volunteers: Please volunteer for this great educational event! Please contact us via email with the time you can help out. Positions are: Handing out water and food, handing out stickers and links to educational websites, helping out at Partner tents and educating riders/trail users on Why you ride bicycles, collecting rider and membership information to follow-up with requested information.

Detailed Ride Site Information and locations:
Sac State (Main entry point)
Look for the tent located under the North side of the Guy West Bridge. There will be FREE Food, Water and Swag. Site sponsors are Bicycle Kitchen and Kinetic Cycles.
William B. Pond Park (Rest Area)
Look for the tent located near the water fountain and bathrooms adjacent to the bike trail. Site sponsor is Mad Cat Bicycles.
Last Parking lot on West side of Hazel Ave (Rest Area)
Look for the tent in this parking lot is located adjacent to the trail on the Bike trail about ¼ mile West before Nimbus Fish Hatchery/Hazel Ave. Look for the tent on the South side of the trail. Note this part of the trail is on a hill, you will need to slow down of heading West from Hazel, if you climbing East towards Hazel this is the perfect place to take a break! Negro Bar, Folsom (Main entry Point)
Look for the tent located in the Negro Bar parking lot adjacent to the Bike Trail. Site Sponsors are Body Concepts, Cycles4Hope.org, Bicycles Plus, City Bicycle Works.
Cycles 4 Hope is a non-profit organization focused on providing Hope, Independence & Opportunity to those in need through the donation of recycled bicycles. Cycles 4 Hope will be holding a bicycle donation drive and offering free basic tune-ups to anyone riding on the American River trail during the event.
